Urgent Care

Same-day care for sudden illnesses and minor injuries.

What Is Urgent Care at Good Health NC?

Urgent care covers the conditions that need same-day attention but aren't life-threatening — the things you'd otherwise go to the emergency department for, then wait six hours and pay an ER bill to address. At Good Health NC, our walk-in urgent care in Knightdale handles:

  • New illnesses (flu, strep, COVID-19, UTIs, sinus infections, pinkeye)
  • Minor injuries (sprains, strains, lacerations, burns)
  • Skin conditions (rashes, infections, abscesses)
  • Allergic reactions that aren't airway-threatening
  • On-site diagnostics (rapid tests, X-rays when needed, labs)

We see walk-ins. We're a primary care office too, which means if you become a patient here, your urgent care visit feeds straight into your chart and your regular clinician sees it.

For a general overview of how urgent care fits into the broader healthcare system, AHRQ maintains useful patient-facing materials on choosing the right level of care.

Urgent Care vs. ER vs. Primary Care — When to Go Where

Knowing where to go saves time, money, and sometimes lives. A practical framework:

Call 911 or go to the ER for:

  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Shortness of breath that's severe or sudden
  • Stroke symptoms (one-sided weakness, slurred speech, facial droop)
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Severe bleeding that won't stop
  • Severe burns or trauma
  • Head injury with confusion, vomiting, or loss of consciousness
  • Severe allergic reaction with airway involvement (use your EpiPen first)
  • Suicidal thoughts or psychiatric emergency (also call 988)

Come to urgent care for:

  • Fevers, sore throats, ear pain, congestion
  • UTIs and skin infections
  • Sprains, mild fractures, lacerations needing stitches
  • Minor burns, rashes, allergic reactions without airway involvement
  • Abscesses that need drainage
  • Sports physicals
  • Dehydration, mild GI illness

What to Expect at Your Urgent Care Visit

Walking into urgent care should be simple:

  1. Check in. Bring an ID, insurance card, and a list of current medications if you have one.
  2. Triage and rooming. We prioritize by severity, not order of arrival.
  3. Visit. A focused history, exam, and any diagnostics needed — rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis, EKG, or X-ray.
  4. Treatment. Prescriptions when needed, in-office procedures (suturing, abscess drainage, splinting), and clear discharge instructions.
  5. Follow-up. If you have a primary care provider here, your visit is in the same chart. If something needs ongoing care, we'll make sure it gets handed off.

Most urgent care visits run 30 to 60 minutes door to door, significantly faster than an ER visit for the same complaint.

Why Choose Good Health NC for Urgent Care

Three things make our walk-in urgent care different:

  1. ER-trained clinician at the helm. our practice lead has 22 years across primary care, urgent care, and emergency medicine. That depth matters when you're trying to figure out whether something is a minor issue or needs escalation.
  2. Walk-in plus continuity. Most urgent cares hand you a discharge sheet and never see you again. We're a primary care office too. Your urgent visit can become the start of an ongoing relationship.
  3. Real diagnostics on-site. Rapid tests, labs, EKG, and X-ray when needed, without sending you across town.

Most major commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicare Advantage plans are expected to be accepted at opening. Self-pay rates will be published before opening. We're located at 330 Sugar Magnolia Ln, Knightdale, NC 27545.

FAQ

Urgent Care — Frequently Asked Questions

No. Thyroid ultrasound is a scheduled imaging study, not an urgent care procedure. If you have a thyroid concern — a lump, swelling, or abnormal labs — that's a primary care visit, where we'd order the ultrasound and connect you with endocrinology if needed.
