Conditions We Treat
What Is Minor Injury Care at Good Health NC?
Minor injury care is walk-in treatment for the everyday musculoskeletal and soft-tissue injuries that don't need the emergency room but shouldn't wait for a primary care appointment next week. At Good Health NC in Knightdale, we evaluate, image, and treat minor injuries the same day — usually within 60 minutes from check-in.
The most common reasons patients walk in:
- A rolled ankle that's swelling and hard to weight-bear
- A fall that may or may not have broken a bone
- A cut that might need stitches
- A back tweak after lifting something heavy
- A sports injury that happened over the weekend
If you're not sure whether your injury is minor or serious, come in. Our team will triage you, image what needs imaging, and tell you exactly what you're dealing with.
Minor Injuries We Treat
Our urgent care handles the full range of minor orthopedic and soft-tissue injuries:
- Sprains — ankle, wrist, knee, finger, neck
- Strains — muscle pulls in the back, hamstring, calf, shoulder
- Simple fractures — wrist, finger, toe, rib, clavicle (we splint and refer for casting when needed)
- Cuts and lacerations — including wounds that need stitches or skin glue (see our burns and lacerations page)
- Minor burns — first-degree and small second-degree
- Bruises and contusions
- Joint dislocations that have already reduced
- Sports injuries — overuse, acute, return-to-play questions
- Workplace injuries — slips, lifts, repetitive strain
For wounds that need ongoing dressing changes or signs of infection, see our wound care page. If you have a deep cut or laceration, head straight to our incision and drainage team for evaluation.
What to Expect at Your Visit
Most minor injury visits at Good Health NC take 45 to 90 minutes, depending on imaging. Here's the flow:
- Check-in and triage — within a few minutes of walking in
- Focused exam — range of motion, palpation, neurovascular check
- On-site X-rays when indicated — read same visit, not the next day (see on-site diagnostics)
- Treatment — splinting, wrapping, sutures, wound care, pain management
- Discharge plan — written instructions, work or school note if needed, follow-up scheduled
We'll tell you specifically what to watch for, when to ice, when to start moving again, and exactly when to come back if something changes.
Treatment Options We Offer
Our minor injury toolkit covers everything you'd expect from a well-equipped urgent care:
- Digital X-ray — on-site, read during your visit
- Splinting and bracing — ankle, wrist, finger, knee, back
- Suturing, stapling, and skin adhesive for lacerations
- Wound irrigation and debridement
- Tetanus boosters when your last one was more than five years ago
- Crutches, slings, and walking boots
- Pain management — NSAIDs, topical anti-inflammatories, short-course prescriptions when appropriate
- Referral coordination — to orthopedics, physical therapy, or your specialist when the injury needs longer-term care
For athletes returning to sport or workers cleared to return to duty, we also handle sports physicals and clearance notes in the same visit.
When to Come In vs. Go to the ER
Come see us in urgent care for:
- Sprains, strains, and suspected simple fractures
- Cuts that need stitches but aren't actively bleeding heavily
- Minor burns smaller than your palm
- Joint pain after a fall, twist, or impact
- Bruising, swelling, or limited motion in an arm or leg
Go to the emergency room (or call 911) for:
- Obvious deformity, bone visible through the skin, or open fracture
- Heavy bleeding that doesn't stop with pressure
- Loss of feeling or movement below the injury
- Head injury with loss of consciousness, vomiting, or confusion
- Suspected spinal injury — neck or back pain after a serious fall or crash
- Chest, abdominal, or pelvic trauma
If you're not sure, walk in. We'd rather see you and redirect you than have you wait at home worrying. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons publishes good patient guidance on common injuries if you want to read more before you come in.
