Conditions We Treat
What Is Diabetes Care at Good Health NC?
Diabetes care is the ongoing management of prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and the conditions that come with them — high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid issues, and weight changes. At Good Health NC in Knightdale, our diabetes program is built around three things: getting your A1C to a healthy range, protecting you from long-term complications, and making sure you actually feel better.
Most of our patients come in with one of three concerns: a recent screening that showed an A1C in the prediabetic range, a family history they want to get ahead of, or a long-standing type 2 diagnosis that hasn't been well-controlled. Wherever you're starting, we build a plan that fits your life — not the other way around. For a deeper look at how diabetes develops, the CDC's diabetes resource center is an excellent starting point.
Diabetes-Related Conditions We Manage
Diabetes rarely shows up alone. Our team treats the full picture:
- Type 2 diabetes — newly diagnosed and long-standing
- Prediabetes — when A1C is 5.7–6.4% and you're at risk
- Insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome
- Gestational diabetes follow-up — postpartum monitoring and prevention
- Hypoglycemia management in patients already on diabetes medication
Because diabetes interacts with so many other systems, your visit may also cover related conditions we manage in-house: hypertension, high cholesterol, thyroid disorders, and medical weight loss including GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide. Treating the whole picture is what makes primary care diabetes management more effective than a fragmented approach.
What to Expect at Your Diabetes Visit
Your first diabetes visit at Good Health NC takes about 45 minutes. Here's how we use that time:
- Medical history review — past labs, current medications, family history, lifestyle factors
- On-site labs — A1C, fasting glucose, comprehensive metabolic panel, lipid panel, kidney function (eGFR + urine microalbumin)
- Physical exam — including foot exam (essential for anyone with diabetes), blood pressure, and weight trend
- Personalized treatment plan — medication adjustments, nutrition guidance, activity recommendations
- Follow-up scheduling — typically every 3 months until your A1C is stable, then every 6 months
All your records, labs, and visit summaries live in our patient portal (launching soon) so you can track your progress and message our team between visits.
Diabetes Treatment Options We Offer
Modern diabetes care is more effective than it's ever been. We use the full toolkit:
- Lifestyle counseling — practical nutrition guidance, activity coaching, sleep and stress factors
- First-line medications — metformin remains the gold standard for most patients with type 2 diabetes
- SGLT2 inhibitors and DPP-4 inhibitors — for patients with cardiovascular or kidney concerns
- GLP-1 receptor agonists — semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) for blood sugar control and meaningful weight loss
- Insulin therapy — when appropriate, with clear instruction and ongoing support
- Continuous glucose monitor (CGM) coordination — including Dexcom and Libre, plus interpretation of the data
- Quarterly A1C monitoring and lab work, with results reviewed together
Our treatment philosophy follows the American Diabetes Association's Standards of Care. For complex cases, we coordinate with endocrinology and other specialists — but most type 2 diabetes can be managed beautifully in primary care.
When to See Us for Diabetes Concerns
Come see us — same day, no referral needed — if you're noticing any of these:
- Persistent thirst or unusually frequent urination
- Fatigue that doesn't improve with rest
- Blurred vision, slow-healing cuts, or recurring skin or yeast infections
- Unexpected weight changes
- A family history of diabetes and you've never been screened
- BMI over 25 and you're 35 or older (the ADA's screening threshold)
- A previous gestational diabetes diagnosis and you're not on a follow-up plan
If you've already been diagnosed elsewhere but feel like your current plan isn't working — your A1C isn't moving, side effects are wearing you down, or you're not getting the time you need with your provider — that's exactly the kind of situation we built this practice for.
